Roles in School
Democracy Week at Denham Village School
At Denham Village School, we believe that every child should have a voice and the opportunity to make a positive contribution to our school community. During Democracy Week, pupils learn about leadership, responsibility, representation, and the importance of working together to make decisions that benefit everyone.
Throughout the week, children can apply for a range of pupil leadership roles and consider how they can make a difference within our school.
School Council Representatives
One representative is elected from each year group to join the School Council. School Council members act as the voice of their classmates, sharing ideas, suggestions, and feedback to help improve our school. They attend meetings, contribute to discussions about school projects and events, and communicate decisions back to their classes. This role helps children develop confidence, communication skills, and an understanding of democratic processes.
Eco Warriors
Our Eco Warriors are passionate about protecting the environment and promoting sustainability across the school. One pupil from each year group is selected to encourage recycling, reduce waste, save energy, and care for our school grounds. Eco Warriors help lead environmental initiatives and inspire others to make responsible choices that benefit our planet.
Sports Captains
Sports Captains are positive role models who encourage participation, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles. Representatives from each year group help organise games and activities, support sporting events, look after equipment, and promote excellent sportsmanship throughout the school. This role develops leadership skills while fostering a love of physical activity
House Captains
House Captains are Year 6 pupils who demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to our school values. They lead and inspire their House teams, support younger pupils, encourage excellent behaviour, and help promote a happy and safe school environment. House Captains play an important role in strengthening our sense of community and school spirit.
Developing Future Leaders
Democracy Week provides pupils with an opportunity to campaign, present their ideas, and participate in elections. Through these experiences, children learn about fairness, responsibility, respect for different viewpoints, and the importance of having their voices heard.
By taking on leadership roles, our pupils embody our school values of being Kind, Curious and Courageous, while making a valuable contribution to the life of Denham Village School.
