Welcome to the Early Years

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the period of education from birth to five years and provides the foundations for children’s future learning and development. At Denham Village School, our Reception class welcomes 15 children, allowing us to provide a nurturing, supportive and personalised learning environment where every child is known and valued.

Our EYFS curriculum builds upon children’s prior learning, experiences and interests from home and previous settings. We provide rich, first-hand learning experiences that encourage children to explore, investigate, ask questions and develop their understanding of the world around them. Through a balance of carefully planned adult-led learning and purposeful play, children are encouraged to become confident, curious and enthusiastic learners.

We recognise that every child is a unique individual, and we celebrate the different experiences, interests, strengths and needs that each child brings to our school community. We place a strong emphasis on developing the whole child, nurturing resilience, kindness, independence and aspiration alongside the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

We believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, secure and valued. Our welcoming environment provides children with opportunities to develop confidence, build positive relationships and develop a lifelong love of learning. We encourage children to take increasing responsibility for themselves, make choices, solve problems and persevere when things feel challenging.

At Denham Village School, we are committed to giving every child the best possible start to their education. Through our nurturing approach, rich curriculum and high expectations, we develop the knowledge, skills and confidence children need to make a successful transition into Key Stage 1 and continue their learning journey with curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm.
